Golf Academy of America Student Has Brush With Greatness

Apr 7, 2009

There are certain moments in a man's life that he'll remember forever.  Getting married, for example, or finally achieving a long-sought goal.  Moments like those are among an elite few memories that will last a lifetime.  For golf enthusiast Boo Jonson, one of those moments happened just a few weeks ago--when he found himself driving a golf cart with Tiger Woods sitting shotgun.

"I volunteered at the Tavistock Cup and we were lined up to take the players away after the tournament--Tiger just hopped in my cart and we took off.  You see him on TV and then all of a sudden he's right there...it was surreal!"
Jonson, a second semester student at Golf Academy of America in Orlando, took advantage of one of the many networking opportunities the school offers its students by volunteering at the Tavistock Cup last month.  Students at the school's four campuses nationwide learn the importance of networking and gain industry exposure by volunteering at events like the Special Olympics, the AJGA Boys' National Tournament, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, to name a few.  And that's just one of the ways Golf Academy of America prepares its students for successful careers in the golf industry.

Golf Academy of America infuses its 16-month Associate Degree program with one-on-one performance instruction, weekly golf tournaments, and hands-on industry training, so that when Golf Academy of America students graduate with a degree in Golf Complex Operations and Management, they are some of the best trained and most employable individuals entering the golf industry.  The Academy's four campuses make their homes in some of the most beautiful golf communities in the nation: San Diego, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Myrtle Beach, SC; and here in Orlando, FL.  The curriculum focuses on teaching, business management, and performance, and offers classes in a wide variety of golf industry topics.

"The Academy has given me some important tools that I know I'll use when I get my first job after graduation--everything I've learned here has paid off," says Jonson.  And the Academy's 7,000+ graduates tend to agree... research shows a student satisfaction rate above the national average.  Since 1974, Golf Academy of America--formerly SDGA-- has been the first and foremost golf school in the nation.  And by giving its students lifelong memories like the one Boo Jonson now has, they continue that level of excellence with each graduating class.
