Golf Academy Hosts First Annual High School Invitational

Aug 3, 2010

The Golf Academy of America campus in San Diego, California, recently hosted its first annual high school invitational tournament at Woods Valley Golf Club. Over 60 high school varsity golfers from all over Southern California competed. Wally Gonzalez from St. Augustine High School defeated Daniel Jahng from University City High School in an exciting one-hole playoff to win the tournament's Iorio Cup (named after GAA campus director Rich Iorio). Both young golfers shot a score of 72 to force the playoff.

The winner of the girls' flight was Elise Polk from San Diego High School with a score of 83. More than 20 high schools were represented at the event. One unique aspect of the Golf Academy of America High School Invitational is that the players had caddies, giving a more "professional" feel to the competition.

Golf Academy of America prepares students for golf careers in the $76-billion business of golf. For more info on Golf Academy of America, visit www.golfacademy.edu or call 800-342-7342.
