Nov 23, 2009

A recent graduate of the San Diego, California, campus of Golf Academy of America, Patty Atkins, is living her dream--and has recently gotten press in her hometown newspaper about her new career. The article in the Omaha World Herald says: "You grind away at work, trying your best, maybe even thankful that you still have a job. But is it your dream job? Omaha native Patty Atkins enjoyed a successful career in critical-care nursing and nursing management. But she left it all behind to pursue her dream -- to became a golf teaching pro."
The article quotes Atkins as saying, "At my going-away party for my old job, we went around the room and asked, 'What would you do if you just followed your dreams?' It was so fascinating because every person had a dream, a passion. And only one person said she was in her dream job."
The article further says, "'I was fortunate. We get one life to live and I thought, 'Why not?' She enrolled at the Golf Academy of America in San Diego, learning all aspects of the golf business, and graduated this summer. She accepted a job as director of player development for Women on Course, specializing in teaching women who are new to golf."
Her instruction includes social, emotional and mental aspects of the game. And you don't have to travel to Southern California for a lesson. Women as well as men can send video of their golf swings to her Web site, http://personalbestgolf.com, for analysis and a few tips.
Atkins told the newspaper reporter, "I have to credit a lot of my success to things I learned on a golf course," she said. "Etiquette, manners, respect for others."
