We would like to offer our condolences to the family of 29-year old Michael Carpenter, a 2003 graduate of Golf Academy of America -- Myrtle Beach, who recently passed away.
Michael, an assistant golf pro at Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, died of smoke inhalation shortly after firefighters rescued him from an apartment fire in Norwalk, CT.
Carpenter's sister Tracy Sherman said his hometown community of Plattshburgh, NY is saddened by the loss of her brother, as many residents knew him from his years playing hockey and golf at Seton Catholic High School.
"There's a huge hole right now," she said. "Plattsburgh is a small town, and everyone in town has been affected by (his death)."
Upon graduating, Michael started his golf career at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, NY working for the Golf Channel's Michael Breed (The Golf Fix). The last three years he has been the Assistant at Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, CT. His winters were spent at PGA West in CA and The Banyon Country Club in West Palm Beach, FL. He attributed much of his success to the faculty of the GAA and contacts he made while gaining his degree.
Although Carpenter's love of golf drew him away from Plattsburgh, his heart remained with his family in the small upstate New York town, according to his brother-in-law, Adam Sherman. Michael will be missed.
