Golf Academy Staff Members, Students Honored by Lakota Sioux Tribe

May 21, 2009

Three staff members and two students at Golf Academy of America's Phoenix, Arizona, campus were recently honored in a special ceremony by the Lakota Sioux tribe. Troy Lunderman, a native of Rosebud, South Dakota, is a recent graduate of the GAA and is a member of the Lakota tribe. A tradition of the tribe is to present a handmade star quilt to people who make a lasting impression on someone's life. Lunderman chose to award the quilt to Tim Eberlein, the Phoenix campus director, Donna Grocott, an administrative assistant at the school, and Ed Ekis, a full-time instructor at the campus as well as a PGA member. Two students, classmates of Lunderman, were also part of the recognition.

In the photos, Tim, Ed and Donna and the classmates are shown wearing their blankets. Troy's uncle (in shorts) sang a song in the Lakota language as a way of honoring the recipients for guiding and supporting Lunderman on his journey toward a degree at Golf Academy of America.
