Taking a Swing at Golf School

Sep 21, 2007

Those looking to pursue a career in the golf industry know that success greatly depends of finding a reputable golf school.  Some may assume that going to a school that specializes in golf is akin to taking lessons at some sort of golf clinic. However, these accredited institutions offer their students an in depth education that can take, at the least, two years to complete.

Golf schools offer all the education and services found in other colleges, yet with a curriculum that solely revolves around the world of golf. While there is time spent out on the course, students first spend time in the classroom learning the principals of the game and its various aspects. Upon graduation, students will have an inner working knowledge of the entire industry.

While it used to be that a career in golf usually meant a weekend job giving lessons, many are following the trend to do what they love as a career. The golf industry is one with many branches and there are a number of careers available in all kinds of different areas. One can work either directly or indirectly with the sport.

A golf school is for those who truly want to learn all they can about golf. Earning one's degree provides the benefit of seeing the golf industry from an insider's point of view. Not only do students get to learn what shapes the ever-changing industry, they know they can be part of the next big development.

Those looking to simply improve their swing will be disappointed. Earning a degree in golf means there will be many theories and philosophies to be studied. Those who opt to earn their degree in management and operations will likely find themselves studying aspects to the golf industry they did not know existed.

When compared to the cost of other schools and types of education, the tuitions and fees of a golf school are astonishingly affordable. As many of these schools are accredited, prospective students are often pleased to find that there is tuition assistance available for those who qualify. Many schools also offer scholarships.

Along with providing an education, many golf schools work in partnership with local courses or hotels when students can work internships. This allows students to put what they learn into practice. Upon graduation, most students then find work in two to three months time.

With a degree from a golf school, there is hardly any place in the country one cannot find work. Many towns, large or small have golf courses in them or at least nearby. Whether one provides lessons or works as a general manager overseeing a facility, golf careers are always on call.

To keep a certain amount of professionalism, most golf courses no longer hire individuals that have little formal training or experience in the industry. This is what makes getting a degree from this type of school a must for those looking to break into the field. It is also the means for getting more prestige and better pay.

Whether one chooses to be a golf course instructor or golf course manager, having the right skills and the education to back it up is what leads to a successful career in golf. Though having a passion for the game is a large part of success, the industry has now grown enough to demand more of its workforce. However, most love the sport so much they have no problem learning it from the inside out.

A two-year degree from a golf school can put a person on the career track of their dreams. Plus, the degree often pays for itself in more ways than one. As many have come to find, not every type of conventional education or advanced degree can say the same thing.
