For PGA Professional Brandon Delgado, leadership has been the most important attribute in the advancement of his career. "Having solid people skills represents the essence of leadership," says Delgado. "There are distinct differences between managers and leaders, however, the new workplace is starting to see the interconnectedness."
His education created a solid, well-rounded foundation. "Golf Academy of America provided me with the leadership skills, business knowledge and networking opportunities that helped me build my career in the golf industry," says Delgado. "With a degree from the Golf Academy of America, I gained a competitive edge in the job market and commanded a higher salary from my employer." Delgado is now the Head Golf Professional at Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club in San Diego.
"The best advice I could offer a current student would to be patient and persistent," says Delgado. "The road to getting the position you want, at the facility you want, is a long one. It took me nine years from the time I enrolled at GAA until I accepted my first Head Golf Professional position. Facilities are looking for candidates with experience, and gaining that experience will take time. The best you can do sometimes is earn respect – and in a workplace environment that can carry you a long way as you strive to reach your career goals."
