Not all Golf Academy of America graduates end up working as teaching professionals. Brian Washek, a Myrtle Beach alum, started as a golf shop assistant and has worked his way through the ranks to become Director of Membership Sales at Imperial Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
In this role, he uses communication, technology and business skills to represent the club to members, potential members and external constituencies. Washek also develops and implements programs and activities designed to increase membership. He says that learning the business side of the golf industry, paired with people skills, has helped him excel in his career.
“GAA helped me learn the golf industry inside and out,” says Washek. He advises students to try out as many roles as possible before committing to a career path. “The experience will be invaluable for future jobs,” he says. “There are many opportunities with in golf.”
