PGA Member Chris Dandrow says that people skills are his most exercised asset. "It's a customer service based industry," he says. "You must be able to communicate and adapt to all kinds of people and personalities."
These people skills, along with the core golf education he received at Golf Academy of America in Orlando, come in handy at his job as Head Golf Professional at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida., where his instruction stresses fundamentals and communication. The facility was ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "75 Best Practice Areas in the U.S.," and has a 23-area practice facility including a dual-ended driving range, two putting greens, and a short game area which allows for pitch shots up to 80 yards.
Dandrow reminds students that they need to put in the time and effort in order to succeed in school. "You'll get out what you put in," he says. "If you're truly serious about a career in golf, learn as much as can while you have the resources at your fingertips. Take advantage of the expertise the staff has to offer. Lastly, have fun. This is a life choice, and you're going to be working for a long time. Enjoy the ride."
