Graduate of Golf Academy of America in San Diego
Current Employer: Valparaiso Country Club in Valparaiso, Indiana
If you ask Joshua Martin, communication is the most important skill for golf professionals to possess, since they often work with members, students, employees and superiors on a daily basis. “If you have clear communication, then everything seems to fall in place,” he says.
Martin has advanced to the position of General Manager at Valparaiso Country Club, a par 72 private course in Indiana. He says that his Golf Academy of America education prepared him to think like a golf professional, teaching him how to run tournaments, give lessons, grip clubs and become a better golfer.
Martin advises students to maintain a professional relationship with everyone they come in contact with. “Never burn a bridge, no matter what,” he says. “Communicate efficiently to your staff, membership and superiors. It will pay off.”
