Director of Golf
Current Employer: Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona
A day on the job for Leo Simonetta, Director of Golf at Arizona’s Wigwam Golf Resort, might involve business pursuits to generate revenue, expense tracking, interacting with employees and customers, using technology or posting on social media. He is constantly working to stay current on golf knowledge and stay ahead of changes in areas like service strategy, marketing and course maintenance.
He says his education at Golf Academy of America gave him a window into this profession. “GAA helped me to understand the business of golf and that, along with knowledge of the game, the need for sharp business skills was essential in order to have a successful career in the golf industry,” he says.
Simonetta advises Golf Academy of America students to get a well-rounded look at the golf business before choosing a career direction. “Try to expose yourself to each facet of the industry and also to each type of club, whether it be private, resort or public daily fee, to see where your best fit may be and what you may enjoy the most,” he says.
