To be successful in the golf industry, you must hone a variety of skills. PGA Professional Matthew Freitag, says that, "golf is a business, and in my opinion, people skills are first, business second, playing/teaching third, merchandising fourth and technology fifth."
Freitag’s education was a catalyst for advancing his career. "The Golf Academy guided me for success," he said. "I took advantage of what they had to offer and achieved my goal of becoming a Director of Golf by the age of 30."
Today, Freitag is Head Golf Professional at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, New Jersey. He attributes this achievement to a carefully executed plan. "Many have long term goals, but do they have the foresight to reach them? I did and stuck to my plan," Freitag says. "When I graduated from the GAA, I vowed to myself to continue my education. I did so by taking the jobs that were best for upward progression on my resume versus taking the jobs that had other perks such as more money or other fringe benefits." He would advise future students to take the same track.
