Graduate of Golf Academy of America in Orlando
Current Employer: GolfTec
For Thomas Howell, team building, strong communications skills and good playing ability, are crucial to advancing a career in golf, along with a knack for staff and business development.
Howell is a Regional Manager for GolfTec in Irvine, Calif., and has taught thousands of lessons since graduating from Golf Academy of America in Orlando in 2002. He says that school leadership constantly challenged him to be a better version of himself, never settling, and preparing him for real world situations.
Howell advises Golf Academy of America students to value every interaction. “Your next career move or big opportunity may come during a round of golf with a complete stranger,” he says. “I make it a habit to collect contact information when meeting new people on the course and shoot them a quick note after the round. A personal, handwritten note and a smile goes a long way.”

Best part of his job: “By far, my favorite aspect of my career is growing the game through the development of coaches. In general, I enjoy helping people, but helping Certified Personal Coaches with GOLFTEC achieve their career goals and helping my team sharpen their respective skill sets is the most gratifying aspect of my career. When my team is well-motivated and understand that I have their best interest at heart, they are more motivated to help people play better golf and, so am I!”
