Golf Academy of America alumni Chad Ristow puts experience to work as Golf Channel's VP of coaching operations for online golf lessons

Sep 4, 2015

Chad Ristow

Chad Ristow graduated from Golf Academy of America in Orlando in 2013. Today, he's the vice president of coaching operations for Athlete Nation and Golf Channel's Swing Fix, which offer online golf lessons through video analysis from professional instructors

Chad started playing golf when he was 12. Since then, he's held just about every job he could in the industry — from country club caddy to first assistant professional. He was working as director of instruction for Little Linksters when a Golf Academy of America connection put him in touch with Athlete Nation. He started out with coaching online, then at tour stops until one day they offered him the vice president position.

"Golf Academy of America gave me all the skills I needed to teach this amazing game," Chad says. "Also very important are the skills to run the business and the ability to learn how to make contacts with people."

Chad specializes in short game coaching and working with junior golfers. He is a certified V-1 instructor, a U.S. Kids Golf Certified Instructor, a certified club fitter, and received certification in golf instruction from Golf Academy of America. He's currently pursuing a PGA apprenticeship

What advice would Chad give to others wanting to get into the golf industry?

"The best thing I could say is to take every opportunity to volunteer and study under professionals when they come up."
