Who Is the Best Golfer of All Time?
Dec 12, 2013
When it comes to legendary players, golf certainly has a list of greats. Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson come to mind. But when we asked two of our campus directors to sound off on their picks as the all time best, the answer was quick and unanimous: Jack Nicklaus.
"There is no question in my mind that Jack Nicklaus is the best golfer of all time," said Rich Iorio, PGA, Campus Director of Golf Academy of America in San Diego. "His resume speaks for itself."
Nicklaus has won 18 major championships, the most of any golfer. As for PGA tour wins, he comes in second for all time with 73 wins. He's won the Masters six times and was PGA Player of the Year five times. Sports Illustrated even named him "Athlete of the Decade" for the 1970s.
Greg Gossett, PGA, Campus Director of Golf Academy of America in Dallas agrees. "Jack Nicklaus is the best golfer of all time for a number of reasons, but mainly because he has won 18 majors, which no one else will accomplish for a long, long time, if ever. Nicklaus has done as much for the game of golf as anyone."
