Charles Reid - Instructor at Algonkian Golf Course, Sterling, Virginia
Apr 9, 2015
Charles Reid is a 2005 graduate of Golf Academy of America
What do you do?
I am an Instructor at Algonkian Golf Course, which is part of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority in Sterling, VA. We teach the PGA method with a focus on the physical kinetics of our students. I teach all aspects of the game and all ages. I specialize in teaching those over 50 because, being a baby boomer myself, I understand the kinetics of the more mature age groups.
How did Golf Academy of America prepare you for your current position?
Golf Academy of America prepared me in every way for working in the golf industry. I worked as a Golf Pro at Doral in Miami for two years before I moved to Virginia. GAA ensured I can handle any aspect of the business and be very successful wherever I am needed.
What were the biggest influences on your career choice of golf?
At first it was the attraction of being able to golf, golf, golf. However, now that I am teaching, what keeps me engaged in teaching is that I love seeing students improve their skills and lower their scores when playing the game and therefore increase their enjoyment of the game.
Tell us about your career accomplishments since graduation.
I obtained a certification in the Ted Simpson Kinetics Golf Instructional Program.
What are your career goals and how do you think your education at Golf Academy of America is helping you achieve them?
I plan to continue teaching golf. I may seek an opportunity to work in a golf shop at a course at some point, but I like working on the range for now.
I hope to hear from some of my many friends with whom I studied and played golf at what was then known as the SDGA from 2005 to 2007. Cheers!
