David Cox - Training Manager at West Corporation, Spokane, Washington
Feb 28, 2015
David Cox is a 2012 Graduate of Golf Academy of America
What are your duties as Training Manager?
I develop and maintain curriculum for all clients supported at site, develop trainers for effective training of all new hires and supplemental training for current employees and manage department budget to meet all company standards and requirements. I also maintain and implement changes to training facilities as needed or required by company standards and I’m lead for acquisition of our newest client.
How did Golf Academy of America prepare you for your current position?
Golf Academy of America set high standards in preparation and time management. If you wanted to get all that you could out of GAA then you needed to master those two skills.
What were the biggest influences on your career choice of golf?
My best friend Will was an avid golfer. He and I were in the military together. In 2009, while on deployment, Will was killed. In his memory I picked up golf and fell in love with it. While at GAA I attribute my success to many but specifically Ed Ekis, Jay Friedman and Warren Pittman.
Tell us about your career accomplishments since graduation.
Since graduation from GAA, I have completed a MBA from Washington State University, passed my PAT and started into my Level 1s with the PGA. I took a job in Washington in 2013 at a prestigious country club. In my current position I have become the "go-to guy” for client acquisition and curriculum development for our site.
What are your career goals and how do you think your education at Golf Academy of America is helping you achieve them?
I would like to be able to open my own training school. GAA taught me many things about how to run a business but the teaching and playing aspects are by far the emphasis.
