Steve Lyons Pro-Shop Assistant Twin Oaks Golf Course
Jul 10, 2013
I was born and raised in Vista, a southern California town where skateboarding thrived in the early 80s. I had a passion for the sport and was a skateboarder for 17 years, becoming actively involved in the business side at the age of 20.
During my skateboarding career, I discovered the game of golf from my father-in-law. After playing my first round, I was hooked. I hacked around for a couple years before meeting a great friend who happened to be a PGA Tour caddy. That's when I got serious about my game.
At the same time, the economy took a turn for the worst, and it became clear that my opportunity to better myself in the skateboarding industry was diminishing. I was looking to do something to make my life better and have more opportunity. That is when I discovered The Golf Academy of America.
After doing a lot of research on the school and its graduates, I decided it was time to embark on a new career, attending the Golf Academy. While going to school, I made ends meet by delivering pizzas. It paid off.
Just after graduation, I accepted a position at Castle Creek Country Club and Stone Ridge Country Club working in outside services. After working those jobs for six months, I accepted a position at Twin Oaks Golf Course as a pro-shop assistant. I am currently starting my PGA apprenticeship and bettering my golf career.
Steve Lyons is a Golf Academy of America in San Diego Alumnus.
