May 2, 2013
When San Diego's The Mighty 1090 Sports Radio sought expert advice on The Masters, they called Rich Iorio, a Class A PGA member and the director of Golf Academy of America in San Diego.
In this segment, Mr. Iorio discusses tournament leaders, course changes at Augusta National Golf Club and what it takes to have a career in golf management.
Here is what he had to say about Golf Academy of America:
"We train individuals to have careers in the golf industry. We were founded in 1974 and Golf Academy of America is the oldest and largest two-year golf management instructional college in the United States. We have five campuses. We are the flagship campus in San Diego."
"Our curriculum goes over golf course management, food and beverage, retail and club management. At the end of our program, after 16 months, we put our graduates in positions as assistant golf professionals, general managers, club repair specialists and sales. We are right in the Carlsbad area, so we are in the manufacturing hub of Callaway, TaylorMade and Titleist. We are in a great spot and we have a great teaching faculty and a great education that really trains individuals and kick starts their career in the golf industry."
