Matthew Vilardo Assistant Golf Professional, Linwood Country Club
Aug 29, 2012
The happiest people make a living doing what they love, and I've loved golf my whole life. However, having that passion and a decent handicap isn't enough to have a successful career in the golf industry. It takes the experience and knowledge that comes from an education. I received that education at the Golf Academy of America at the Myrtle Beach campus.
Shortly after graduation in April 2010, I obtained my position as the Assistant Golf Pro at the Linwood Country Club, which is a private club with a 90 year history, in Linwood, NJ. In this competitive job market, I am certain that having a degree from the Golf Academy of America gave me an advantage over other applicants. The comprehensive Golf Operations Management program taught me so much about every aspect of the golf industry. Tournament management and rules, golf instruction, business operations, club fitting, and leadership are the types of skills I learned and apply every single day in my position as Assistant Pro. In addition, I am on the Nike Golf Professional Staff and am a registered PGA Apprentice.
I am happy to come to work, knowing that I make our members and their guests feel welcomed, knowing that I am competent and confident, and that I am making a living doing what I love.
